To Our Friends and Sponsors:

We are most grateful for your commitment, support, and prayers as we have come to the end of a 6th year at Reflections Unlimited. This year has held such fulfillment and promise. In 2010 we had our first Spring Cultural and Enrichment Trip. In February 2010 we spent a fun- filled weekend in Atlanta. On Saturday, we enjoyed the Alvin Ailey Dancers at the Fabulous Fox Theatre followed by an enjoyable dinner at the famous Benihana’s Japanese Hibachi in Buckhead. Of course, no trip with girls would be official without a quick mall run. We did enjoy Lennox Square. On Sunday, we toured the Georgia Aquarium, the largest aquarium in the world. Needless to say, the girls are still talking!!!

In 2011 we had our March session at Savannah’s Tea Room in Fort Mill, South Carolina. We were honored to have a table of mothers to join us. Both mothers and students were excited as they experienced having afternoon tea with dignity and class.

In 2012, we had our annual Spring Gala at the Charlotte Marriot SouthPark. Our third graduating class presented talent in various forms, mainly readings, instrumentals and modeling. The young ladies were stunning as they walked the white carpet adorned in white gowns.

In 2013, we will have an intense summer leadership camp. Come enjoy 3 fun-filled days of learning new and exciting things. Workshops will include topics such as college and career planning, etiquette, improving your image, professional dress, public speaking, academic lab and Spanish.

PARENTS

Would you like to see your daughter develop into a confident young lady possessing poise and dignity?

In today's world, we are constantly bombarded every waking hour with negative influences from television commercials, magazines, the internet, and popular culture. The goal of advertising of this type is to convince us that we are somehow inadequate and incomplete to create a dependency on products to adorn the exterior. Reflections Unlimited will teach your daughter to discern and filter these images, fortifying them from the inside. Through exposure to etiquette training, character education, instructional lessons, mentorship, activities and guided group discussions, your daughter will become empowered and possess the skill set to be poised, confident and self-assured in any social setting.

Good character programs can: (1) improve school culture and climate; (2) improve student behavior; (3) reduce acts of violence; (4) reduce drug and substance abuse; (5) improve identity and attachment to schools; (6) improve academic performance.- 2007 Research Study by Joseph W. Mazzola, Executive Director of the Character Education Partnership.

The enhancement of self-worth through preventive and counseling interventions was found to be important in young adults as a source of protection from depressive symptoms.-2006 Research Study featured in the Journal of Counseling and Development.

Why use good manners? We want to put others at ease around us. We don’t want people to feel threatened or insulted by our behavior. Respect is the key. Using good manners is the ultimate of respecting yourself and others.  It can all be summed up in the Golden Rule- treat others as you wish to be treated. This is a great truth that is respected by most societies.

P.M. Forni, a professor and co-founder of the Johns Hopkins University Civility Project, told USA Today that the changes we see in celebrity manners are part of a greater behavior shift in American culture. "American society is among the most informal in the world," Forni said. Now, you add the informality of the Internet to this culture, and all bets are off. It's an age of total disclosure and total expression, with very little concern for the feelings of others.

TESTIMONIALS

It teaches so much more above etiquette. The girls are able to hear and experience how to grow into your "lady/womaness" outside of their typical "parent" experience. They also provide professional panels that discuss how to get to your professional goals-beyond "I want to be a doctor, lawyer, etc...." They really break it down to the girls relative to what it takes to get into college; it’s more than claiming a profession. They cover the discipline it takes and the courses you need to take in high school. The girls enjoy it because they are typical tweens and teens that get tired of hearing their parents. Please share with your friends who have daughters. If we don't teach our girls that you do not have to settle for anything and that there is a real world of experiences...who will?
